Daily Logs¶
Summary¶
Bristol Maps offers the ability to create log entries that track your most important fishing data:
- Location
- Weather
- Tides
- Tag images
- Log relevant information
- Track and analyze catches and deliveries
- View created logs on the navigation page
Create Log¶
There are several ways to create a new log entry:
- From the map -- Double tap on the navigation page to bring up a dialog and create a new log entry at that location.
- From the Logs tab -- Select the
+button to open a new log page. The current time will be used but no location data will be added automatically.
Location¶
A location can be added or updated on a log entry from its detail page. Selecting the location button brings up a map page. Any custom overlays currently applied will appear just as on the navigation page. Select anywhere on the map to update the log location.
Weather¶
Once a location has been selected, the app retrieves weather data for the log time and location. Changing the time or location will update the weather.
Internet Required
An internet connection is required to download weather data. If offline, weather will be populated the next time the app connects to the internet.
See Weather for more about weather features.
Tides¶
When a location has been selected, the nearest tide station is chosen automatically. This can be updated via the tide sub menu. If the station's data has been saved previously, tides for the log time will appear immediately. Otherwise the app will download one year of tide data when connected.
See Tides for more about tide features.
Images¶
Log entries can have images associated with them. Photos must already be taken and available in your device's photo gallery. Image thumbnails can be viewed on the log page, and tapping a thumbnail opens a larger view with limited pinch-to-zoom.
Icon¶
When viewing logs on the navigation screen, logs appear with a default icon. This can be customized in the Icon subsection with various included icons. If you have a specific icon you'd like added, reach out to support@bristolmaps.com.
Catch/Sets¶
The catch and sets subsection allows tracking of catch and delivery information.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Name of the entry, e.g. Opening set or Pacific Viking Delivery |
| Type | Either Delivery or Set. Data is broken out by type in analytics. |
| Gear Description | Filter to track by gear type, e.g. 5" Blue Smoke Peak web. Compare catches between gear types in analytics. |
| Species | Species name to differentiate catches when sorting multiple species. |
| Quantity | Amount of fish. Keep units consistent -- pounds/kilos for deliveries, count for sets. |
Analytics¶
Log analytics can be accessed via the log list page icon on the top navigation bar. Analytics break down your catch and delivery data with charts for comparison across time periods, gear types, and species.
Tip
Use consistent units and gear descriptions across log entries to get the most useful analytics comparisons.
