Diagnostic Logs

A live feed of the app's internal messages -- location updates, waypoint sharing, chat traffic -- as they arrive. It is a troubleshooting tool, not a record of your fishing. Support will point you here when something is not coming through and we need to see what the app is actually receiving.

This is not your log entries

Despite the name, this page has nothing to do with your daily log entries or catch records. Those live on the Logs tab. This page shows diagnostic messages from inside the app. The page itself says:

This page is available for troubleshooting failures. Please only use as directed.

Opening It

About page > Logs (the toolbar button).

What You See

A list of messages, newest at the top, each showing a name and a time. Tap any row to expand it and read the full message body.

The list holds the most recent 100 messages. Older ones drop off the bottom as new ones arrive.

Controls

Two toolbar buttons at the top:

Button What it does
Clear Empties the list
Pause Stops new messages being added. The button changes to UnPause; tap it again to resume

Pause is the useful one. When something goes wrong, hit Pause straight away so the message you need does not scroll off while you are reading.

Message Categories

Four buttons turn each category of message on or off. Each button's label flips to show what tapping it will do next -- so Enable Location means location messages are currently off, and Disable Location means they are currently on.

Button Category
Enable Location / Disable Location Position updates coming in and going out
Enable Waypoints / Disable Waypoints Waypoint sharing traffic
Enable Chat / Disable Chat Fleet and group chat messages
Enable Sent Messages / Disable Sent Messages Messages this device sends, as well as ones it receives

In the default state, location messages are off and waypoint and chat messages are on -- which is why those two buttons read "Disable" when you first open the page.

Turn on only the category you are chasing. Location traffic in particular is high volume and will bury everything else.

Using It With Support

If support asks you to check this page, the usual routine is:

  1. Open the page and turn on the category that matches your problem.
  2. Leave it open, or go and reproduce the problem, then come back.
  3. Hit Pause.
  4. Expand the relevant rows and read out or screenshot what they say.

Messages are held in memory only. Closing the app clears them.
